Cricut Easypress Mini Review

I am the first to admit we all have our little trials and tribulations during the course of our lives. I suspect mine is a little different than most because at heart, I am a crafter.

The problem is I have never found anything effective for small heat transfers. I used to become unbelievably frustrated whenever I had to deal with any of the more awkward and smaller surfaces.

I have done a lot of crafting projects on caps, hats, my kid’s clothes, tees, stuffed animals and probably just about anything else you can imagine. I do it because it makes me happy and I end up with some really nice things.

I recently heard about the Cricut Easypress Mini. It was supposed to be just as effective as one of the standard size heat presses. I read an ad that said it was ideal for heat transfer projects.

You need to understand I had to try it simply because of who I am. Never in my wildest imagination did I believe it would be that good. My first thought when I opened the box was this is the cutest and tiniest thing I have even seen.

My tiny heat transfers suddenly became easy, even when the surface was not ideal. I was able to maneuver it so easily. I have already used it for my kid’s sweatshirt and my husband’s favorite cap. Well, at least one aspect of my life is easier now.

There is a good reason Cricut has released so many different sizes of the Easypress. If you are a diehard crafter like me, you may want to have every single one. If you only craft occasionally, you have options for the sizes you will be using the most.

The Cricut EasyPress Mini is an impressive heat press. The product makes it easy to adhere materials such as infusible ink or iron-on vinyl to other materials including wood, cork and fabric.

You accomplish this simply by using the power of heat. In my opinion, this is the cutest little thing EasyPress has ever released. Even more importantly, it is sturdy so I know it is going to last for a long time.

If you have ever seen or used any of the products from the EasyPress family, you are already aware they were much larger. The original EasyPress and all three of the sizes available for the EasyPress 2 were all considerably bigger.

There are a lot of things I really like about the product that makes it ideal for everyone with an interest in heat transfers. Instead of just buying something generic, you can make special and unique gifts for your friends and family.

Have you ever tried to find the perfect t-shirt, sweatshirt or cap for someone you cared about? There is a good chance you were not successful. Everything comes in and out of fashion so quickly, half the time I am unable to find what I want.

The Cricut Easypress Mini gives you the ability to create what you want. You can personalize just about anything. The EasyPress mini is shaped just like a teardrop. This makes it ideal for the projects you were unable to use the larger version for.

The Features of the Cricut Easypress Mini

When I said it was cute, I was being serious. The heat plate is coated with ceramic. The mini size is only two by 3.5 inches. Cute right? The best part is the maneuverability because the weight is only 0.8 pounds or 0.35 kilograms.

You will literally have 150 watts right in your hand. Have you ever had problems with buttons, seams, grooves, curves or surfaces with odd shapes? This is the answer. You can easily work around all of these issues.

The EasyPress Mini even helps you reach hard to reach areas and tight spaces with no problem. One of my biggest issues in the past were products with no temperature controls.

The EasyPress Mini has three different settings so you can control the temperature. You can choose from low, medium and high. There is a heat plate to make it simple to distribute heat evenly. This is sensational if you use iron ons.

Have you ever experienced failure with an iron on? Every time it happened to me it was because my iron did not heat evenly or it was just not hot enough. I have never had this issue with the Cricut Easypress Mini.

1. Heat Settings

Your best option is choosing a heat setting according to the project you are making. There is even a basic guide you will find invaluable.

The low setting is for heat sensitive, synthetic, delicate or lightweight fabrics. This setting is also great for anything more delicate and foil iron ons.

The medium setting works perfectly for heat transfers onto vinyl and almost any fabric. This is the setting I use the most. You probably will as well.

You want to use the high setting when you are working with either blanks or projects requiring infusible ink.

If you are not sure which setting to use, Cricut even provides you with an excellent guide for heat transfers. Despite my experience, I find myself using it a lot. I find it is always best to start out using a lower setting.

If you need more heat, you can always make your EasyPress Mini hotter. If you have ever scorched any of your materials as I have, you know you are better off starting out with a cooler temperature.

I have overheated material that never should have been overheated and smooshed more than one blank. The thing is, that has never happened with this product. I can control where the heat goes because of the size. It is just easier to control.

2. Grip & Handling

The grip makes it so much easier to hold than any of the tiny irons. I never cared for the pinching grip necessary to hold any of the other irons. It always feels awkward and my hand starts cramping fairly quickly.

There is a small handle you can hold the same way you would your everyday iron. It is comfortable on the hand and becomes familiar fast. Safety has always been one of my priorities.

The EasyPress Mini has an insulated safety base and an auto-shutoff feature. I do not like the flimsy little metal stands other products offer. They are no different than what came with my hot glue gun. The stand for the EasyPress Mini is excellent.

I am always afraid I am going to knock one of those little stands over. Even if I get distracted, I know my EasyPress Mini will turn itself off after just thirteen minutes when I forget about it. That is what I call excellent safety.

I have completed entire projects just by using my Cricut Easypress Mini. If you already have one of the other EasyPresses, they work beautifully together. I use the larger version for bigger surfaces. The smaller one is perfect for detailed areas.

Using the Cricut Easypress Mini

Using the product is incredibly easy. All you need to do is follow the steps below.

1. Place the EasyPress Mini on a firm, hard surface and plug it in.
2. Turn it on by pressing the power button. If you want to adjust the temperature, simply press it again.
3. The light will turn green once the desired temperature has been reached.
4. Adhere your infusible ink, foil or vinyl for the time recommended.
5. Once you project cools down enough for you to handle, you can peel off the backing material.
